Notice of the Decision of the Minister for Land Information re the Assigning of Place Names

Pursuant to section 12 of the New Zealand Geographic Board Act 1946, notices were given on 25 March 2004 and 3 March 2005 of the intention of the New Zealand Geographic Board Nga Pou Taunaha o Aotearoa to assign the names Maioro Sands and Gunsight Pass.
Objections were received to these proposed names and were dealt with pursuant to section 13 of the said Act.
I hereby declare that it is my decision that the names of these places shall be as referred to in the first column of the Schedule below, as described in the second column of the said Schedule, and that this decision took effect on 19 June 2006.
Schedule
North Auckland Land District
Maioro Traditional ancestral name applying to an area covering Waiuku Forest, and formerly referred to as the ironsands mining area, Topographic Map 260-R13 Port Waikato, centred at GR 630 260. Not named on current mapping (replacing previous New Zealand Gazette, 26 February 1970, No. 10, page 297). Not Maioro Sands.
Otago Land District
Gunsight Pass Alpine pass between Belfry Peak and Bruce Peak, connecting the north and south Temple valleys, Topographic Map 260-H38 Ohau, GR 510 754. Not named on current mapping. Not Gunbarrel Pass.
