Manaia Primary School (1798) – Designation as a Designated Character School

Pursuant to sections 154A and 156 of the Education Act 1989, I hereby give the following notice.
N o t i c e
1. Manaia Primary School (1798), Thames, will become a designated character school.
2. This notice shall come into force on 28 January 2007.
3. Manaia Primary School shall provide education for students from Year 1 to Year 8.
4. The following aims, purposes and objectives of Manaia Primary School, together with the use of te reo Maori as the principal language of instruction, shall constitute the designated character of the school:
(i) to produce excellent competency in te reo
and matauranga Maori, derived primarily from
Te Awaawa o Manaia;
(ii) to contribute and enhance the well-being of Ranginui and Papatuanuku, their whanau, hapu
and iwi;
(iii) to develop within the tamariki, consciousness of their connection to Te Taiao and their individual and collective responsibility to ensuring that connection remains intact;
(iv) to produce young people who are able to fulfil their own potentials and able to make choices about
their future;
(v) to build a kura based on both the matauranga and tikanga of the tangata whenua of Manaia; and
(vi) to provide an educational environment (kura) that promotes the educational vision, goals, objectives, management and self-determination of the tangata whenua of Manaia.
Constitution of the Board of Trustees
5. The present Board of Trustees of Manaia Primary School shall continue as the board of the school and be constituted in accordance with section 94 of the Education Act 1989.
