Notice That Certain Types of Electrical Appliances and Fittings Require Approval Before Being Offered for Sale

Pursuant to Regulation 101 (1) of the Electricity Regulations 1997, I, Sanjai Deepak Raj, acting under delegated authority
from the Chief Executive of the Ministry of Economic Development, hereby give public notice that from 1 February 2007, the types of electrical appliances and fittings listed in the Schedule require my approval before being sold or offered for sale in New Zealand.
All previous public notices given pursuant to Regulation 101 (1) of the Electricity Regulations 1997 are revoked and substituted by this notice from 1 February 2007.
All approvals, and conditions attaching to approvals, that are in force for electrical appliances and fittings before 1 February 2007, remain in force after 1 February 2007 unless otherwise varied or withdrawn.

Room heater An electrical appliance which(a) is a household type; and(b) is for heating, by electrical energy, the atmosphere for comfort purposesincluding:(c) a fitting intended to provide a combination of illumination and heating or ventilation, or both, and having a combined rating up to and including 1.5 kW;but does not include:(d) an air-conditioning appliance;(e) a heating system that is intended to heat the atmosphere of a room primarily by raising the temperature of any floor, wall or ceiling area; or(f) an under-carpet heating system.
