Te Kura Kaupapa Maori o Waiuku Establishment

Pursuant to sections 146 and 155 of the Education Act 1989, the Minister of Education hereby gives the following notice.
N o t i c e
1. This notice may be cited as Te Kura Kaupapa Maori
o Waiuku Establishment.
2. This notice shall come into force the day after its publication in the New Zealand Gazette.
3. I hereby establish in Waiuku a full primary school called Te Kura Kaupapa Maori o Waiuku and designate the school as a Kura Kaupapa Maori.
4. The school will operate in accordance with Te Aho Matua.
5. The special characteristics of Te Kura Kaupapa Maori
o Waiuku include that it commits totally to the guiding principles outlined in Te Aho Matua, that:
? the paramount purpose of the kura is the needs of tamariki and their learning;
? all tamariki enjoy an education, which respects their tino rangatiratanga, dignity, rights and individuality;
? we undertake to educate our tamariki through te reo Maori total immersion as a medium of instruction;
? our tamariki develop a sensitivity and respect for all others;
? this education challenges them to reach their full potential in the pursuit excellence.
6. Constitution of the Board of Trustees
The Board of Trustees of Te Kura Kaupapa Maori
o Waiuku shall comprise:
(a) five people appointed by the Minister;
(b) the principal, or principal designate;
(c) not more than four people co-opted by the board.

The school will become operational on 1 October 2006. The present kura teina, Te Whanau o Te Kura Kaupapa Maori
o Waiuku, will cease to exist from that date.
