Pursuant to section 170 of the Education Act 1989, the Minister of Education gives the following notice.
N o t i c e
1. This notice may be cited as the Waikato Institute of Technology Notice 2006.
2. This notice shall come into force on the date of its publication in the New Zealand Gazette.
3. The constitution of the Waikato Institute of Technology Council shall be amended in a manner that complies with section 171 of the Education Act 1989 and whereby the composition of the council shall be as set out below:
(a) Four members appointed by the Minister of Education.
(b) The Chief Executive Officer of the Waikato Institute of Technology.
(c) One permanent member of the academic staff of
the Waikato Institute of Technology elected by the permanent members of that staff.
(d) One permanent member of the general staff of
the Waikato Institute of Technology elected by the permanent members of that staff.
(e) One member who is appointed in accordance with the constitution or rules of the compulsory students association of the institute or otherwise in accordance with section 171 (2) (e) (ii) of the Education Act 1989.
(f) One member who is appointed in keeping with the intent of section 171 (2) (f) (i) of the Education Act 1989, being one person appointed in accordance with the council’s constitution after consultation
by the person or body making the appointment with
the central organisation of employers within the meaning of the Labour Relations Act 1987.
(g) One member who is appointed in keeping with the intent of section 171 (2) (f) (ii) of the Education Act 1989, being one person appointed in accordance with the council’s constitution after consultation
by the person or body making the appointment with
the central organisation of workers within the meaning of the Labour Relations Act 1987.
(h) One iwi representative nominated by the Waikato Raupatu Lands Trust Executive after consultation with Te Arikinui Dame Te Atairangikaahu, or her successors.
(i) One member appointed by the Waikato Institute of Technology Council, drawn from community cluster groups, namely:
(i) Maori organisations;
(ii) organisations representing industry and commerce;
(iii) organisations representing community entities (including the Regional, City and District Councils);
(iv) organisations representing health, education and community services.
(j) Up to two members co-opted by the Waikato Institute of Technology Council as and when it sees fit.
4. The term of office of members of the council,
vacation of office, disclosure of members’ interest and casual vacancies are covered in sections 173 to 176 of
the Education Act 1989.
Subject to section 173, the maximum term for any member, other than the chief executive officer, shall be three consecutive four-year terms.
5. The powers of the Waikato Institute of Technology Council shall not be affected by the amendments made by this notice or by vacancy in the membership thereof.
