Land Transport Rules

In accordance with section 161 (2) of the Land Transport Act 1998, Land Transport New Zealand, on behalf of the Minister of Transport, gives notice of the Minister’s intention to make a Rule that proposes amendments to Land Transport Rule: Frontal Impact 2001 (Rule 32006) (“the Frontal Impact Rule”) and advises that draft Land Transport Rule: Frontal Impact Amendment [2007] (Rule 32006/3) is available for public comment.
The main purpose of the proposed amendment Rule is to put in place an improved system for the entry into New Zealand (subject to their meeting specified conditions) of some vehicles that do not comply with an approved frontal impact standard, as required by the Frontal Impact Rule.
The categories of vehicles concerned are vehicles brought in by immigrants and returning New Zealand citizens and residents, unique collectable vehicles, motor sport vehicles, and passenger vehicles with a gross vehicle mass of more than 2,500kg.
Amendments are also proposed to update terminology and definitions in the Frontal Impact Rule as a consequence of changes to other legislation, including other Rules.
