Pursuant to section 161 (3) of the Land Transport Act 1998, notification is given of the making of Land Transport Rule: Traffic Control Devices Amendment 2006 (Rule 54002/2).
This Rule amends Land Transport Rule: Traffic Control Devices 2004*, which specifies the requirements for the design, construction, installation, operation and maintenance of traffic control devices, and sets out the functions and responsibilities of road controlling authorities in providing traffic control devices.
This amendment Rule corrects errors and clarifies provisions in Land Transport Rule: Traffic Control Devices 2004.
The changes made by the amendment Rule include: Allowing fixed signs to be used at ramp signals instead of variable signs; clarifying provisions relating to pedestrian crossings, pedestrian traffic signals and school bus signs; amending definitions; and inserting new traffic signs and amending existing signs and markings in the schedules.
Land Transport Rule: Traffic Control Devices Amendment 2006 comes into force on 6 October 2006.
It is available for inspection free of charge at the National Office of Land Transport New Zealand, 7 Waterloo Quay, Wellington.
