I, Bruce John Maroc, Deputy Director of Monitoring
and Compliance, Maritime New Zealand, being satisfied that the granting of this exemption will not breach
New Zealand’s international obligations, and pursuant to sections 47 (2) (b) (iii) and 47 (3) of the Maritime Transport Act 1994, hereby give notice as follows:
The owner of MV Monte Stello (MSA 132212) is exempt from the requirement in Rule 40B.21 (2) (a) of Part 40B of the maritime rules in relation to Regulation 41.8.12 of Chapter III of SOLAS 83 Amendment, which states:
A food ration totalling not less than 10,000kJ for each person the lifeboat is permitted to accommodate; these rations shall be kept in airtight packaging and be stowed in a watertight container.
Subject to the following conditions:
1. The Passenger Ship Safety Certificate issued for the MV Monte Stello remains current and valid; and
2. The MV Monte Stello is engaged on voyages within 20 nautical miles of the New Zealand coast.
The exemption from the provisions of Maritime Rule 40B.21 (2) (a) shall remain in force until:
(a) one or more of the above conditions are not met;
(b) the ship undergoes major alteration;
(c) the ship operating limits are permanently changed;
(d) the ownership of the ship is changed; or
(e) the exemption is revoked by the Director of Maritime New Zealand;
whichever occurs first.
Dated at Wellington this 18th day of April 2006.
