Pursuant to section 36 of the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Act 2000, the Minister of Energy gives the following notice.
The Minister of Energy proposes to recommend to Cabinet that Schedule 1 of the Energy Efficiency (Energy Using Products) Regulations 2002 be amended to increase the stringency of minimum energy performance standards (MEPS) for some energy-using products.
A period of public consultation on the proposed Regulations is also notified and details are given below.
The proposed amendments are:
? To increase the stringency of minimum energy performance standards for single phase non-ducted air conditioners less than 7.5kW within the scope of AS/NZS 3823.2 on 6 June 2006; and
? To increase the stringency of minimum energy performance standards for three phase electric motors with output ratings from 0.73kW to 185kW, within the scope of AS/NZS 1359.5 on 6 June 2006.
The proposed Regulations will increase the stringency of the minimum energy performance standards of these products to ensure alignment of standards with Australia, in accordance with the Trans-Tasman Mutual Recognition Arrangement, and to ensure the cost effective improvement of energy efficiency performance of these product classes.
