The Constitution of Te Mana Whakahaere (Council) of Te Wananga o Aotearoa Te Kuratini o Nga Waka

Pursuant to section 170 of the Education Act 1989, the Minister of Education gives the following notice.
N o t i c e
1. This notice may be cited as the Te Mana Whakahaere (Council) of Te Wananga o Aotearoa Te Kuratini o Nga Waka Notice 2005.
2. The council of Te Wananga o Aotearoa Te Kuratini
o Nga Waka shall be constituted as follows:
(a) Four members appointed by the Minister of Education.
(b) The Tumuaki (Chief Executive Officer) of
Te Wananga o Aotearoa.
(c) One person to be chosen from amongst the permanent members of the academic staff at
the five Waikato / Maniapoto campuses and the
head office of Te Wananga o Aotearoa and elected by all permanent members of the academic staff of Te Wananga o Aotearoa.
(d) One person to be chosen from amongst the permanent members of the general staff at
the five Waikato/Maniapoto campuses and the
head office of Te Wananga o Aotearoa and elected
by all permanent members of the general staff of
Te Wananga o Aotearoa.
(e) At least one but no more than two persons who
are or who have been students of Te Wananga
o Aotearoa (the increase to two to be at the discretion of the council). The term of office for
the student representative(s) will be one year and the representative(s) shall be elected from time to time by one campus of Te Wananga o Aotearoa and the right to elect shall fall to each campus on a two year rotational basis in the order that the first letter of the campus name falls in the Maori alphabet.
(f) One person appointed by the Council of Te Wananga o Aotearoa after consultation with
the New Zealand Employers’ Federation.
(g) One person appointed by the Council of
Te Wananga o Aotearoa after consultation with the New Zealand Council of Trade Unions.
(h) One person appointed by the council as kaumatua of Te Mana Whakahaere (Council) of Te Wananga
o Aotearoa.
(i) At least five and no more than eight persons appointed by the council with regard to iwi representation, the specific needs of Te Wananga
o Aotearoa, its unique character, and the gender, ethnic and socio-economic composition of the community served by Te Wananga o Aotearoa.
3. Subject to section 171 (3) of the Education Act 1989 and to clause 2 of this notice, the constitution of the council may include members by co option.
4. Subject to section 173 of the Education Act 1989,
the maximum term for any member, other than the chief executive officer, shall be five four-year terms.
5. This notice revokes the previous constitution as notified in the New Zealand Gazette, 2 September 1993, No. 129, page 2624.
6. This notice shall come into force on the day after the date of its notification in the New Zealand Gazette.
