Special Needs Grants Amendment 2005

Pursuant to section 124 (1) (d) of the Social Security Act 1964, the Minister for Social Development and Employment makes the following amendment to the Special Needs Grants Programme (as established and approved on
18 December 1998).

A m e n d m e n t
1. Title—(1) This amendment is the Special Needs Grants Amendment 2005.
(2) In this amendment, the Special Needs Grants Programme is called “the programme”.
2. Commencement—This amendment comes into force
on the day after the date on which it is published in the
New Zealand Gazette.
3. Income limit—Clause 7.1 of the programme is amended by omitting the word “An” and substituting the words “Except for the purposes of clause 15.6, an”.
4. Young persons leaving care to live independently—Clause 15.6.1 of the programme is amended:
(a) by omitting the words “and not more than 17”:
(b) by adding to paragraph (c) the word “; and”, and by adding the following paragraph:
“(d) whose income is less than $442.64 a week.”

Explanatory note
This note is not part of the amendment, but is intended to indicate its general effect.
This amendment extends eligibility for special needs grants for re-establishment costs of young persons who leave care under the Children, Young Persons, and Their Families Act 1989 under the transition to care initiative.
The upper age limit for such grants is removed, and grants are allowed to young persons whose gross income is less than $442.64 a week.
