Pursuant to section 60A of the Education Act 1989 (incorporating all amendments), the Minister of Education makes the following amendments to the National Education Goals and the National Administration Guidelines notified in the New Zealand Gazette, 29 April 1993, page 1086
(as amended in the New Zealand Gazette, 27 June 1996, page 1634, New Zealand Gazette, 25 November 1999, page 4229 and New Zealand Gazette, 18 December 2003,
page 4764).
1. The National Education Goals are amended by deleting existing clause 5 and substituting the following clause:
(5) A broad education through a balanced curriculum covering essential learning areas. Priority should
be given to the development of high levels of competence (knowledge and skills) in literacy and numeracy, science and technology and physical activity.
2. The National Administration Guidelines are amended by adding the following clause to NAG (1):
(i) (c) giving priority to regular quality physical activity that develops movement skills for all students, especially in Years 1-6.
This notice will take effect from 1 January 2006.
