Te Kura Kaupapa Maori o Whangaroa

Pursuant to sections 146 and 155 of the Education Act 1989, the Minister of Education hereby gives the following notice.
N o t i c e
1. This notice may be cited as Te Kura Kaupapa Maori
o Whangaroa.
2. This notice shall come into force on the day after publication.
3. I hereby establish in Matauri Bay a full primary school called Te Kura Kaupapa Maori o Whangaroa and designate the school as a Kura Kaupapa Maori.
4. The school will operate in accordance with Te Aho Matua.
5. The special characteristics of Te Kura Kaupapa Maori o Whangaroa are that:
? Te Kura Kaupapa Maori o Whangaroa commit totally to the guiding principles outlined in Te Aho Matua;
? the paramount purpose of the kura is the needs of tamariki and their learning;
? all tamariki enjoy an education which respects their Tino Rangatiratanga, dignity, rights and individuality;
? the tamariki will be educated through Te Reo Maori total immersion as the medium of instruction;
? our tamariki develop a sensitivity and respect for all others; and
? this education challenges them to reach their full potential in the pursuit of excellence.
Constitution of the Board of Trustees
6. The Establishment Board of Trustees of Te Kura Kaupapa Maori o Whangaroa shall comprise:
(a) five people appointed by the Minister of Education;
(b) the principal, or principal designate; and
(c) not more than four people co-opted by the board.
7. The Te Kura Kaupapa Maori o Whangaroa notice, published in the New Zealand Gazette, 28 October 2004, No. 138, page 3416, is hereby revoked.

The school will become operational on 1 January 2005. The present kura teina, Te Whanau o Te Kura Kaupapa Maori
o Whangaroa, will cease to exist as from that date.
