Te Kura O Waikare Establishment

Pursuant to sections 146 and 156 of the Education Act 1989, I hereby give the following notice.
N o t i c e
1. This notice may be cited as Te Kura o Waikare establishment.
2. The notice shall come into force on the day after its publication in the New Zealand Gazette.
3. I hereby establish in Waikare, a primary school called
Te Kura o Waikare and designate the school as a designated character school.
Aims, Purposes and Objectives of Te Kura O Waikare
4. The following aims, purposes and objectives constitute the character of Te Kura Toitu o Waikare:
? Te Reo Maori o Te Kapotai will be the principal language of this school (i.e. of instruction, of communication),
and at the same time the board will acknowledge the importance of other languages, which will also be taught;
? To integrate positive Maori values and principles into every aspect of school activities, raising the academic achievement, self-esteem, self-confidence, pride and mana of our tamariki;
? To produce tamariki who become high achievers, who are able to make wise choices about their future and can contribute to whanau and hapu;
? To seek and provide effective and sufficient opportunities to learn Te Reo and Tikanga o Te Kapotai from the marae and ropu kaumatua/kuia;
? To encourage parents and wider whanau to play an active role in the life of the school and be committed
to its aims;
? The school will reflect a holistic learning environment acknowledging the physical, educational, social, cultural and spiritual components of the individual to promote and enhance their overall health and well-being; and
? Whilst the school's character is Te Reo and Tikanga
o Te Kapotai, the school is open to all students who embrace these aims, purposes and objectives.
Constitution of the Board of Trustees
5. The Board of Trustees of Te Kura o Waikare shall comprise:
(a) five people appointed by the Minister;
(b) the principal, or principal designate; and
(c) not more than four persons co-opted by the board.
