Pursuant to Regulation 88 (1) of the Traffic Regulations 1976, and acting under authority delegated to me by the Director of Land Transport Safety, I, Brent Ronald Blann, Technical Support Manager, hereby approve auxiliary lamps of the type specified in Schedule 1 of this notice, subject to the conditions specified in Schedule 2 of this notice.
Schedule 1
Cornering lamps in the form of steadily burning lamps used to supplement the vehicle's headlamps by providing illumination in the direction towards which the vehicle is going to turn.
Schedule 2
A motor vehicle may be fitted with two cornering lamps provided that:
(a) the lamps were fitted as original equipment by the vehicle manufacturer; and
(b) the lamps operate in accordance with vehicle manufacturer's specifications; and
(c) the vehicle complies with one of the following approved vehicle standards:
(i) The UN/ECE Regulation No. 48: Uniform provisions concerning the approval of
vehicles with regard to the installation
of lighting and light-signalling devices (E/ECE324-E/ECE/TRANS/505/Rev.1/Add.47).
(ii) The Australian Design Rule 13: Installation
of lighting and light-signalling devices on other than L-group vehicles.
(iii) The Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 108: Lamps, reflective devices and associated equipment.
This notice expires when the Land Transport Rule: Vehicle Lighting (Rule 32005) comes into force.
