Psychopaedic Nurse
Pursuant to sections 42 (1) (a), 42 (2) (a), 42 (3), 42 (9)
and 48A of the Nurses Act 1977, the Nursing Council of New Zealand ("the council"), in a decision dated 29 April 2003, ordered that Deborah Karen Ashby's name be removed from the Register of Psychopaedic Nurses.
This followed conviction in the Christchurch District Court on two charges of using a document for pecuniary advantage, pursuant to section 229A (b) of the Crimes Act 1961.
Deborah Karen Ashby was sentenced by the Court to
300 hours of community work and ordered to pay total reparation of $33,590.00.
In exercising its disciplinary powers, the council declined to fix a time that Deborah Karen Ashby may apply for reinstatement to the Register.
It also ordered that Deborah Karen Ashby pay $600.00
of the costs of and incidental to the inquiry, that a
notice stating the effect of the orders be published in the New Zealand Gazette, Kai Tiaki: Nursing New Zealand,
the Nursing Review, the nursing council's newsletter and made available to accredited members of the media, and that she return to the Registrar all certificates and badges issued to her under the Nurses Act 1977.
MARION CLARK, Registrar.
