Te Kura Toitu o Te Whaiti-nui-a-Toi Establishment

Pursuant to sections 146 and 156 of the Education Act 1989, I hereby give the following notice.
N o t i c e
1. This notice may be cited as Te Kura Toitu o Te Whaiti-nui-a-Toi establishment.
2. The notice shall come into force on the day after its publication in the New Zealand Gazette.
3. I hereby establish in Minginui and Te Whaiti a composite school called Te Kura Toitu o Te Whaiti-nui-a-Toi, catering for Years 1-10, and designate the school as a Designated Character School.
Aims, Purposes and Objectives of Te Kura Toitu o
Te Whaiti-nui-a-Toi
4. The following aims, purposes and objectives constitute the character of Te Kura Toitu o Te Whaiti-nui-a-Toi:
? To provide a kura community which encompasses the special character of our Tipuna Toi, whose mauri will be the underlying principles for the betterment of our future generations.
? Te Reo Maori will be the princpal language of this Kura (i.e. of instruction, of communication), and at the same time the board will acknowledge the importance of other languages, which will also be taught.
? Te Kura Toitu o Te Whaiti-nui-a-Toi will endeavour to develop, maintain and uphold cultural integrity with te mauri o Toi as a guiding philosophy (ie Hikina te mauri o Toi, kia toitu te whenua, te reo, te wairua, te Iwi).
? Te Kura Toitu o Te Whaiti-nui-a-Toi will reflect a holistic learning environment (i.e. physically, mentally, socially, spiritually, culturally) where emphasis will be placed on encouraging students to actively participate in all fields of traditional and modern sciences and technology with all curriculum areas.
? Te Kura Toitu o Te Whaiti-nui-a-Toi will ensure that it involves and interacts with the whanau, hapu and Iwi of our tamariki for support and strive to ensure that we produce young and future leaders.
? Te Kura Toitu o Te Whaiti-nui-a-Toi will be part of the Tuhoe Education Authority's strategic and educational plan that arises from the Mission Statement:
Whangaia ki te korero, kia pehapeha te korokoro, tera i te kereru i runga i te miro.
? Students will be encouraged and motivated to participate fully to the best of their abilities in the learning programmes of Te Kura Toitu o Te Whaiti-nui-a-Toi.
? To ensure the success of Te Kura Toitu o Te Whaiti-nui-a-Toi, it will need the passion and commitment of the Board of Trustees, Tumuaki, staff and whanau to its vision, aims, purposes and objectives.
Constitution of the Board of Trustees
5. The Board of Trustees of Te Kura Toitu o Te Whaiti-nui-a-Toi shall comprise:
(a) five people appointed by the Minister;
(b) the principal, or principal designate;
(c) not more than four persons co-opted by the board.
