Legal Services Agency-Police Detention Legal Assistance Scheme

The Legal Services Agency is required to administer the Police Detention Legal Assistance Scheme for persons detained or questioned by the Police in accordance with sections 49 to 52 of the Legal Services Act 2000 including any regulations made under it.
The agency gives notice that it will revoke on the 17 March 2003, the former Legal Services Board instructions of 1994 and 1994 Amendment No. 1, for the Police Detention Legal Assistance Scheme.
The revoked instructions are replaced with the Policy for the Police Detention Legal Assistance Scheme.
The principal changes from the Legal Services Board Instructions are to the:
? reimbursement for travel;
? reimbursement for both telephone and attendance in person, in certain circumstances;
? provision of payment for a suitably qualified interpreter to assist the Police Detention Legal Assistance provider in certain circumstances; and
? night rate hours applicable for Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays.
The agency's provider manual will be amended to reflect the changes.
