Notice of the Decision of the Minister for Land Information re the Assigning of Place Names

Pursuant to section 12 of the New Zealand Geographic Board Act 1946, notice was given on 1 March 2001 and
18 October 2001 of the intention of the New Zealand Geographic Board Nga Pou Taunaha o Aotearoa to assign the names stated in the first column of the Schedule below, to the respective places described in the second column of the Schedule.
Objections were received to these proposed names and were dealt with pursuant to section 13 of the said Act.
I hereby declare that it is my decision that the names of these places shall be as referred to in the first column of the Schedule below, and that this decision shall take effect on 9 September 2002.

Mokiiti/Little Moggy Island Confirmed dual name for an island in the Titi/Muttonbird Islands, south-west of
Stewart Island/Rakiura. Topographic map 260 C49 & D49 Mount Allen, GR 2086300E 5326500N. Mokoiti Island (Little Moggy) currently shown on mapping. Mokiiti Island official by New Zealand Gazette, 1948, page 939; then changed to Mokoiti Island by
New Zealand Gazette, 1962, page 2021; then Little Moggy added as the alternative name by New Zealand Gazette, 1966, page 18; and then Mokoiti Island (Little Moggy) became official by New Zealand Gazette, 1998, page 78.
Mokinui/Big Moggy Island Confirmed dual name for an island in the Titi/Muttonbird Islands, south-west of
Stewart Island/Rakiura. Topographic map 260 C49 & D49 Mount Allen, GR 2085500E 5325500N. Mokonui Island (Big Moggy) currently shown on mapping. Mokinui Island official by New Zealand Gazette, 1948, page 939 (replaced Kackarow or Moggy); then changed to Mokonui Island by New Zealand Gazette, 1962, page 2021; then Big Moggy added as the alternative name by New Zealand Gazette, 1966, page 18; and then Mokonui Island (Big Moggy) became official by New Zealand Gazette, 1998, page 78.
