Te Kura Kaupapa Maori o Te Kotuku

Pursuant to sections 146 and 155 of the Education Act 1989, the Minister of Education hereby gives the following notice.
N o t i c e
1. This notice may be cited as Te Kura Kaupapa Maori o Te Kotuku.
2. This notice shall come into force the day after its publication in the New Zealand Gazette.
3. I hereby establish in West Auckland a full primary (Years 1 to 8) school called Te Kura Kaupapa Maori
o Te Kotuku and designate the school as a Kura Kaupapa Maori.
4. The school will operate in accordance with Te Aho Matua.
5. The special characteristics of Te Kura Kaupapa Maori o Te Kotuku are:
(a) Ko ta taua whakaarohanga tuatahi ko te Oranga me nga whakarurutanga me te whakakori me nga aronganui a roto Te Kura Kaupapa Maori o Te Kotuku
To ensure the well being and safety of the child within Te Kura Kaupapa Maori o Te Kotuku both physically and emotionally is the first priority.
(b) Ko te reo me nga tipuna tikanga aa iwi
To strengthen and enhance the positive identity of the child by teaching in total immersion Maori the language, culture, art, dance and in the traditions of Maori culture.
(c) Akonga te tamaiti te tuu rangatira me nga ngakau tapatahi hai aarahi i te hunga tika
To teach the child to have values, respect, integrity and dignity when dealing in all issues of life.
(d) Te kaiako me te whanau o Te Kura Kaupapa Maori
o Te Kotuku tiakina nga tatau tamaiti o nga mahi pai
To ensure our children are provided the best academic curriculum that our kaiako, board of trustees and whaanau can produce.
(e) E mahi tika tino kaiako ki nga mahi o nga rauemi
To ensure our children are proficient in the modern world by providing them with the appropriate learning tools.
(f) E whakarite nga panui he hira i te ao i naaianei kia takaapuinga ki te toi
To provide communication and information technology so our children are proficient in modern technology.
(g) Ko te nuinga o nga tauira e whakaute ana i o raatau tinana
To ensure that our children have respect for their bodies through the implementation of a sports curriculum.
(h) Awhinatia te whanau e korero te reo maori te kaupapa me te tikinga i roto tenei kura
To provide support to parents as an extension method of teaching.
(i) Ko te tino hiahia o te Whanau o Te Kotuku ko te poipoi i te tamaiti; kia rangona tona ihi, tona wehi, tona tapu; kia tipu tona mana me tona rangatiratanga; kia tu pakari, tu rangatira ia hei raukura mo tona iwi.
To nurture the child so that his/her uniqueness, power and prestige be felt and heard so that his/her power and chiefliness grow in bounds and that he/she stands tall and strong showing leadership qualities as a role model for his/her people.
(j) Ko te kura te whanuitanga o te kainga. Ko ta te mahi o te kura, kia mahi tahi me te whanau kia whakahangai ki te horopaki o te ao o nga tamariki.
The school is an extension of the home. It is the task of the school to work closely with the whanau in matters that are real and meaningful to the child's world.
(k) Ko ta te whanau mahi ko te awhi, ko te ako, kia tipu ora mai te katoa o te tamaiti.
It is our task to embrace, to teach so as to develop the whole child.
(l) Me mahi ngatahi te whanau me nga kaiako kia tipu ora mai nga tamariki.
The teachers and the whanau must work together to develop the child holistically.
(m) E whakapono ana te whanau ki nga matapono o Te Aho Matua.
The whanau adheres to the philosophies and practices of Te Aho Matua
6. Constitution of the board of trustees-The board of trustees of Te Kura Kaupapa Maori o Te Kotuku shall comprise:
(a) 5 people appointed by the Minister.
(b) The principal or principal designate.
(c) Not more than 4 persons co-opted by the board.
