Bylaw Regulating the Speed of Vehicles in

Part Time School Speed Zones
Pursuant to section 61 (3) of the Transit New Zealand Act 1989 and section 72 (1) (j) of the Transport Act 1962, Transit New Zealand hereby makes the following bylaw.

1. Title and commencement-This bylaw may be cited as the Transit New Zealand (Part Time School Speed Zones Bylaw) Bylaw 2002/16 and shall come into force 28 days after its publication in the New Zealand Gazette.
2. Interpretation-In this bylaw:
(a) "Vehicle" has the same meaning as in the Transport Act 1962.
(b) "Part time speed limit" means the speed limit of
40 kilometres per hour, as shown by the part time speed limit signs displayed on the sections of State highway in the schedule below on school days between the hours of 8.25 a.m. and 9.00 a.m., and 2.50 p.m. and 3.15 p.m.
(c) "Part time speed limit sign" means the 40 kilometres per hour speed limit sign which has a light emitting diode (LED) display for the steady 40 kilometres per hour legend and flashing yellow warning lights in each corner of the display.
(d) "School days" means the days on which the schools adjacent to the sections of State highway in the schedule below are open for instruction.
3. The part time speed limit shall be in force when the steady state 40 kilometres per hour legend in the part time speed limit sign is illuminated and when the yellow corner warning lights are flashing on the sections of State highway described in the following schedule.

4. The section of State Highway No. 74 that is on Main North Road in Christchurch City, from a point (Route Position 0/0.07) 100 metres generally in a north-easterly direction from the intersection with Swift Street extending to a point (Route Position 0/0.49) located 170 metres generally in a south-westerly direction from the intersection with Lagan Street; a distance of approximately 420 metres.
5. The section of State Highway No. 75 that is on Halswell Road in Christchurch City, from a point (Route Position 0/6.04) 240 metres generally north-east of Larsens Road
to a point (Route Position 0/6.44) 90 metres generally in
a south-westerly direction from the intersection with O'Halloran Drive; a distance of approximately 400 metres.
This bylaw was made by resolution passed by the Transit New Zealand Authority at a meeting held in Wellington on 3 April 2002.
