Public Notice of Draft Strategy to Improve

Energy Efficiency
Draft National Energy Efficiency and Conservation Strategy-Making Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Mainstream Solutions
The Government wants to improve New Zealand's energy efficiency and the use of renewable energy sources.
A Draft Strategy setting out measures and targets to achieve this has been prepared.
There are measures proposed for central and local government, buildings, industry (including agriculture), transport, and energy supply sectors.
The measures include information, education and training, pricing, financial assistance, institutional commitments, rules and plans, standards and research.
We are seeking public submissions before the Strategy is finalised.
The Draft National Energy Efficiency and Conservation Strategy will be released by the Minister of Energy by
1 April 2001.
Copies of the Draft Strategy will be available from 1 April 2001 from:
? Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (EECA) web site (www.eeca.govt.nz).
? Ministry for the Environment web site (www.mfe.govt.nz).
? EECA and Ministry for the Environment offices.
Copies of the Draft Strategy may be inspected from 1 April 2001 at the following places during normal working hours:
? EECA Offices: Level Six, District Court Building,
3 Kingston Street, Auckland; Level Three, Natural Gas House, 22 The Terrace, Wellington; and Unit B,
52 Mandeville Street, Riccarton, Christchurch.
? Ministry for the Environment Offices: 8-10 Whittaker Place, Auckland; Grand Annex Building, 84 Boulcott Street, Wellington; and Level Three, West Park Towers, 56 Cashell Street, Christchurch.
? Most local council offices and public libraries.
Written submissions must be received by 1 June 2001.
