Pursuant to section 78M of the Education Act 1989, I have directed the Secretary for Education to appoint a limited statutory manager for the Waimokoia Residential School Board of Trustees because of risks to the operation of the school.
The limited statutory manager shall have vested in him:
(a) the necessary functions, powers and duties of the board to enable completion of all the disciplinary and personal grievance actions under way as at
2 November 2001.
The limited statutory manager must advise the board on:
(b) any actions which must take place to complete the disciplinary process already under way;
(c) any actions, including mediation, required to resolve the personal grievances which have been lodged; and
(d) any reasonable expenses which may be incurred as a consequence of (b) and (c).
The following conditions apply to the exercising of the powers of the board by the limited statutory manager:
(e) The term of the limited statutory manager shall expire when the Minister is satisfied that the appointment is no longer required;
(f) the powers of the limited statutory manager shall be limited to those vested in him to deal with the issues above;
(g) the limited statutory manager shall report weekly
on progress to the chairperson of the board of Waimokoia Residential School; and
(h) the limited statutory manager shall report on progress in writing to the Ministry of Education on
a monthly basis.
This notice takes effect the day after the date of publication.
