Pursuant to section 13 of the Fisheries Act 1996, the Minister of Fisheries gives the following notice.
N o t i c e
1. Title and commencement-(1) This notice is the Fisheries (Total Allowable Catches) Notice 2001.
(2) This notice comes into force on 1 October 2001.
(3) For the South Island freshwater eels, there shall be a total allowable catch for a transitional period between 1 October 2001 and 31 January 2002, and a total allowable catch for the period commencing 1 February 2002.
2. Interpretation-In this notice, unless the context otherwise requires:
(a) the quota management areas referred to by reference number in the Schedule are the quota management areas described in the Second Schedule of the Fisheries (Quota Management Areas, Total Allowable Catches, and Catch Histories) Notice 1986 (S.R. 1986/267), and where 2 or more quota management areas are shown as combined in respect of any species, the combined areas together comprise 1 quota management area for that species;
(b) references to fishstock codes are references to the fishstock codes specified in table 1 of the Second Schedule of the Fisheries (Reporting) Regulations 1990 (S.R. 1990/214).
3. Total allowable catches-The total allowable catch for each quota management area in respect of each specifies specified in the Schedule is that stated in the final column of the Schedule against the relevant quota management area and species.
