Warning Traffic Signs-Steep Grade and Speed Limit Ahead

Pursuant to section 129 (6) of the Traffic Regulations 1976, and pursuant to a subdelegation from the Director of Land Transport Safety by an instrument dated 3 May 1999, I, Robert Albert Gibson, Senior Engineer Safer Roads, hereby authorise the erection, installation and maintenance of the warning traffic signs described in the Schedule to this notice for the purposes of Regulation 128 (4) of the Traffic Regulations 1976.
Schedule
General Description of Signs
The warning signs must conform to the layouts of the example signs depicted in the diagrams below and be in accordance with the following specifications.
1. Background colour-Yellow reflectorised.
2. Border-Black.
P-24 Alternative Steep Grade sign
1. Shape and Size-Diamond 600mm square.
2. Legend-Symbol of a right-angle triangle with percentage grade, represented by a number followed by %, on the hypotenuse.
3. Use of traffic sign-The sign may be used in substitution for the sign described as P-24 Steep Grade in Part II, Fourth Schedule to the Traffic Regulations 1976 to warn there is a steep grade ahead.
P-24 (c) Steep Grade Supplementary Sign
1. Shape and Size-Rectangle 850mm wide x 500mm high.
2. Legend-The words ALL VEHICLES (Series D lettering) followed by the words USE LOW GEAR (series E lettering).
3. Use of traffic sign-The sign may be used to supplement a P-24 sign.
P-24 (d) Steep Grade Supplementary Sign
1. Shape and Size-Square 600mm.
2. Legend-The words USE LOW GEAR (series E lettering).
3. Use of traffic sign-The sign may be used to supplement a P-24 sign.
P46 Speed Limit Ahead Sign
1. Shape and Size-Diamond 600mm square.
2. Legend-Symbol in the form of an R-22(a) Speed Limit (Normal) sign in Part IV, Fourth Schedule to the Traffic Regulations 1976 with the appropriate speed limit in kilometres an hour.
3. Use of traffic sign-Warning of a speed limit ahead.
P46 (a) Speed Limit Ahead Supplementary Sign
1. Shape and Size-Rectangle 600mm wide x 250mm high.
2. Legend-Distance in metres to the speed limit.
3. Use of traffic sign-Must be used whenever a P-46 sign is erected.
