In accordance with section 161 (2) of the Land Transport Act 1998, the Land Transport Safety Authority (LTSA), on behalf of the Minister of Transport, gives notice of his intention to make a rule concerning certification of vehicles, and advises that the proposed Land Transport Rule: Vehicle Standards Compliance (2002), which will revoke and replace Land Transport Rule: Vehicle Standards Compliance 1998, is available for public comment.
This draft legislation is intended to ensure that all vehicles meet an acceptable level of safety when they enter the
New Zealand fleet, if they are modified or their use changes, and throughout their on-road life.
The draft rule incorporates related proposals contained in the Vehicle Safety Proposals Consultation Paper released on 28 June 2001.

The draft rule is also available for viewing at the LTSA's seven regional offices.
Copies of the draft rule have been made available to groups and individuals who have expressed an interest in the rule.
