The Commerce Commission is initiating an inquiry under section 54 (3) of the Commerce Act 1986 into the prices
set by electricity line businesses (local distributors and Transpower).
The inquiry does not cover electricity retailing.
As part of the inquiry, the Commission will give interested persons the opportunity to furnish their views, will issue discussion papers and will seek submissions on these.
The inquiry will be conducted with a view to putting the Commission in a position where it can report to the Minister of Energy on price control for electricity line services.
