Pursuant to Regulation 38 (1) of the Education (Early Childhood Centres) Regulations 1998, the Secretary for Education gives the following notice.
N o t i c e
1. Title and commencement-(1) This notice may be cited as the Early Childhood Centres (Recognised Qualifications) Notice 2000.
(2) This notice shall come into effect on the day after the date of its publication in the New Zealand Gazette.
2. Recognised qualifications-The following qualifications are recognised for persons responsible in all early childhood centres except for playcentres affiliated to the New Zealand Playcentre Federation and operating under group supervision and except for kohanga reo affiliated to Te Kohanga Reo National Trust.
(a) Diploma of Teaching (ECE), a Bachelor of Teaching (ECE) or other early childhood teaching qualification from a teacher education provider approved by the Teacher Registration Board for teacher registration purposes;
(b) An overseas early childhood teaching qualification assessed by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority as comparable to (a) above;
(c) A New Zealand Free Kindergarten Diploma;
(d) A qualification or qualifications held to be equivalent to a Diploma of Teaching (ECE) as a result of an application to the New Zealand Qualifications Authority prior to 1 January 1995;
(e) An early childhood teaching qualification which, at the date of this notice, was held by a person responsible and had been recognised by the Ministry of Education or the New Zealand Qualifications Authority as equivalent to a Diploma of Teaching;
(f) Subject to paragraphs (i) and (ii) of this subclause, 100 licensing points verified by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority:
(i) For existing persons responsible, this qualification is recognised only until
31 December 2004.
(ii) For new persons responsible, this qualification is recognised only until 31 December 2001.
For the purposes of this subclause, a "new person responsible" means a person who has never held that designation in any early childhood service before
1 January 2002.
3. Revocations-(1) This notice revokes paragraphs (a), (b) and (c) of the notice entitled "Qualifications Recognised by the Secretary of Education for the Purposes of the Education (Early Childhood Centres) Regulations 1990", published in the New Zealand Gazette of 25 July 1991, No. 110, page 2430.
(2) This notice revokes the following notices:
