Childcare Assistance Amendment (No 7)

Pursuant to section 124 (1) (d) of the Social Security Act 1964, the Minister of Social Services and Employment establishes and approves the following Amendment to the Childcare Assistance welfare programme (as established and approved on 19 December 1998).

A m e n d m e n t
1. Title-(1) This is the Childcare Assistance Amendment (No 7).
(2) In this Amendment the Childcare Assistance Welfare Programme is called "the programme".
2. Commencement-This Amendment comes into effect on the day after the date on which this Amendment is approved by the Minister.
3. Payment and rates of Childcare and OSCAR subsidy-In clauses 8 (2), 8 (3), 9 (2), 12 (2) (b) and 12 (3) (b) of the programme, the expression "30" is to be read as "37" during the period beginning on 1 February 2001 and ending on 30 June 2001.
4. Eligibility for Childcare Subsidy-(1) Clause 8 (3) is amended by adding the following paragraph:
"(c) where the person (being the applicant) is the principal caregiver of a child-
(i) for whom a child disability allowance is payable; or
(ii) who is in hospital (not being the child for whom the subsidy is sought)."
(2) Clause 8 (6) (b) of the programme is revoked.

Explanatory Note:
This note is not part of the Amendment, but is intended to explain its general effect.
This Amendment increases the maximum hours that can be claimed for a childcare subsidy and for an OSCAR subsidy during the school holidays from 30 to 37 hours a week, with effect from 1 February 2001 until 30 June 2001. It also corrects a drafting effort in the original programme.
