Notice of Intention to Apply for Ministerial Approval of a Code of Practice Under the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992

Code of Practice for Health and Safety in Helicopter Logging Operations in Forestry
Pursuant to section 20 of the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992, I, R. J. M. Hill, General Manager, Occupational and Health Service of the Department of Labour, in exercise of those powers delegated to me by the Secretary of Labour, pursuant to section 41 of the State Sector Act 1988, hereby give notice of intention to apply to the Minister of Labour for her approval of a statement of preferred work practices or arrangements for employers to consider when managing Helicopter Logging Operations in the forest industry, as an "Approved Code of Practice" under the Act.
These preferred work practices or arrangements are designed to provide persons engaged in helicopter logging, with practicable steps for ensuring the health and safety of employees and others working in helicopter logging operations in forestry.
Requirements to be observed when planning helicopter logging operations are set out along with the precautions to be observed when using ground based machinery and equipment in conjunction with helicopters. Provisions relating to the use of personal protective equipment and procedures for communication and dealing with emergencies are also set out.
