Notice of Intention to Apply for Ministerial Approval of a Code of Practice Under the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992

Code of Practice for Health and Safety in
Port Operations
Pursuant to section 20 of the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992, I, R. J. M. Hill, General Manager, Occupational and Health Service of the Department of Labour, in exercise of those powers delegated to me by the Secretary of Labour, pursuant to section 41 of the State Sector Act 1988, hereby give notice of intention to apply to the Minister of Labour for her approval of a statement of preferred work practices or arrangements for employers to consider when managing Health and Safety in Port Operations, as an "Approved Code of Practice" under
the Act.
These preferred work practices or arrangements set out practicable steps employers can take to minimise the risks to health and safety of employees and others working at ports.
There are provisions covering the safe operation of plant, machinery and equipment used at ports. Precautions for dealing with noise, stress and fatigue are also set out.
