Aims, Purposes and Objectives of Mana Tamariki
4. The following aims, purposes and objectives constitute the character of Mana Tamariki:
(i) To promote the survival and retention of the Maori language and culture;
(ii) To adhere to the broad principles of Te Aho Matua but focus on and prioritise those features of Te Aho Matua that support the special character of the Kura;
(iii) To develop the students so that they are highly fluent in the Maori language and knowledgeable of Maori customs and traditions;
(iv) To serve families that have at least one parent who speaks Maori only to the child enrolled in the Kura;
(v) To foster intergenerational transmission of te reo Maori so that the language shift from English to Maori is reversed and te reo Maori thrives as the living functional language of daily use;
(vi) To promote a holistic view of human development, recognising that cultural, physical and emotional well-being are as essential as intellectual and creative development;
(vii) To promote and uphold a spiritual dimension which is indigenously Maori;
(viii) To embrace the underpinning principle of equity for Maori children and their families, recognising the historical injustices that have restricted the full development of Maori people;
(ix) To maintain a close relationship with Te Kohanga Reo o Mana Tamariki;
(x) To continue to uphold the general objectives of the previously registered private school known as Te Kura Kaupapa Maori o Mana Tamariki.
