Declaration by Chief Electoral Officer That Arthur Anae be Elected a Member of Parliament

On Tuesday, 14 March 2000, I received a warrant from the Speaker of the House of Representatives to supply a member of Parliament to fill a vacancy created by the resignation of Don McKinnon.
Pursuant to section 137 (2) of the Electoral Act 1993, I have determined that Arthur Anae was the next unelected candidate whose name was included in the same party list as the member whose seat has been declared vacant and that it was Arthur Anae's name which stood highest in the order of preference.
Pursuant to section 137 (3) of the Electoral Act 1993, I have inquired of the Secretary of the political party on whose list Arthur Anae's name appeared whether he remains a member of that party and I have been informed by the Secretary of that political party that Arthur Anae remains a member of that party.
Pursuant to section 137 (4) of the Electoral Act 1993, I have inquired of Arthur Anae whether he is willing to be a member of Parliament and he has indicated his willingness to be a member of Parliament.
Therefore, I, Philip Raymond Whelan, Chief Electoral Officer, declare that Arthur Anae is elected as a member of Parliament.
Dated at Wellington this 14th day of March 2000.
P. R. WHELAN, Chief Electoral Officer.
