Pursuant to sections 146 and 156 of the Education Act 1989, I hereby give the following notice:
N o t i c e
1. This notice may be cited as Te Kura Maori ki Porirua establishment.
2. This notice shall come into force on 7 February 2000.
3. I hereby establish in Porirua a primary school called Te Kura Maori ki Porirua, and designate the school as a designated character school.
Aims, purposes and objectives of Te Kura Maori ki Porirua
4. Together with the use of te reo Maori as the principal language of instruction, the following aims, purposes and objectives constitute the character of Te Kura Maori ki Porirua:
(i) To ensure the survival of te reo in Porirua;
(ii) To lift academic achievement of Maori tauira;
(iii) To pursue excellence and quality in all areas of the kura;
(iv) To celebrate the similarities and diversities of the tauira while drawing upon te mana whenua of Ngati Toa Rangitira;
(v) To treasure tauira as taonga;
(vi) To honour the Treaty of Waitangi.
Constitution of the Board of Trustees
5. The Board of Trustees of Te Kura Maori ki Porirua shall comprise:
(a) Five people appointed by the Minister;
(b) The principal, or principal designate; and
(c) Not more than four persons co-opted by the board.
