Radiocommunications (Radio) Regulations (General Licence for 121.5 and 243.0 MHz Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacons) Notice 1999 Pursuant to regulation 13 of the Radiocommunications (Radio) Regulations 1993, and acting under delegated authority from the Secretary of Commerce, I give the following notice: N o t i c e 1. Short title and commencement (1) This notice may be cited as the Radiocommunications (Radio) Regulations (General Licence for 121.5 and 243.0MHz Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacons) Notice 1999. (2) This notice comes into force on 4 February 1999. 2. General licence (1) A licence under regulation 13 of the Radiocommunications (Radio) Regulations 1993 is granted for the installation, operation, and use of radio apparatus for the transmission of radio distress alerts at the frequencies specified in the First Schedule to this notice with the purpose of facilitating determination of the location of persons in distress. 2. Terms, conditions and restrictions (1) This licence applies only to radio apparatus which complies with section 3 of joint Australian/New Zealand Standard AS/NZS 4330:1995 in respect of which a declaration of conformity has been submitted to the Secretary under regulation 43 of the Radiocommunications (Radio) Regulations 1993. (2) This licence only applies to equipment for which the Maritime Safety Authority of New Zealand does not require registration of a transmitted identity code. (3) The frequencies available for use under this licence are those specified in the First Schedule to this notice. (4) The technical conditions applying under this licence are those specified in the Second Schedule to this notice. (5) Where any radio apparatus to which this licence applies ceases to be used or installed that radio apparatus must be rendered inoperable to avoid the inappropriate transmission of distress signals. 4. Period of validity of licence This licence expires on 31 January 2004. Carrier Frequency Tolerance: 3 kHz at 121.5 MHz, 6 kHz at 243 MHz Maximum Power: 300 mW (-5 dbW) e.i.r.p. Spurious Emissions: Must not exceed 75 dBV/m measured 10 m from the antenna and 1.75m above the horizontal (-40 dBW e.i.r.p.). Dated at Wellington this 2nd day of February 1999. This notice prescribes that, pursuant to regulation 13 of the Radiocommunications (Radio) Regulations 1993, a general licence is granted in respect of the installation, operation, and use of radio apparatus on frequencies specified in this notice. The licence only applies to apparatus which complies with section 3 of the standard AS/NZS 4330:1995, and that is installed, operated and used for the transmission of radio distress alerts. This notice comes into effect on 4 February 1999.
