Notice of Intention to Apply for Ministerial Approval for an Amendment to a Code of Practice Under the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992 Approved Code of Practice for the Management of Noise in the Workplace Pursuant to section 20 of the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992, I, R. J. M. Hill, General Manager, Occupational Safety and Health Service of the Department of Labour, in exercise of those powers delegated to me by the Secretary of Labour, pursuant to section 41 of the State Sector Act 1988, hereby give notice of my intention to apply to the Minister of Enterprise and Commerce for his approval for an amendment of an approved code of practice for the health and safety management of noise in the workplace under the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992. The Approved Code of Practice for the Management of Noise in the Workplace includes preferred work practices that are designed to describe safety and health precautions that should be taken in the management of noise in the workplace. They are designed to provide employers with practical guidance on how to identify and manage noise hazards in the workplace to minimise the risks to the health and safety of employees and others working with or near excessive noise. These preferred work practices also apply to all designers, manufacturers, and suppliers of plant that produce noise levels greater than the exposure limits, and to all designers, manufacturers, and suppliers of hearing protectors. The amendment will seek to resolve a discrepancy surrounding the notification of Noise Induced Hearing Loss, and to update the code and align it with the recently published AS/NZS 1269 and 1270 Standards. Dated at Wellington this 26th day of October 1999. R. J. M. HILL, General Manager.
