Radiocommunications (Radio) Regulations (General Licence for 121.5 and 243.0 MHz Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacons (EPIRBs)) Notice 1997 Pursuant to regulation 13 of the Radiocommunications (Radio) Regulations 1993, and acting under delegated authority from the Secretary of Commerce, I hereby give the following notice: N o t i c e 1. Short title and commencement (1) This notice may be cited as the Radiocommunications (Radio) Regulations (General Licence for 121.5 and 243.0 MHz emergency position indicating radio beacons (EPIRBs)) Notice 1997. (2) This notice shall come into force on the 1st day of September 1997. 2. General licence A licence under regulation 13 of the Radiocommunications (Radio) Regulations 1993 is hereby granted for the installation, operation, and use of radio apparatus for the transmission of radio distress alerts at the frequencies specified in the First Schedule to this notice with the purpose of facilitating determination of the position of persons in search and rescue operations. 3. Terms, conditions and restrictions (1) The frequencies available for use under this licence shall be those specified in the First Schedule to this notice. (2) This licence applies only to apparatus which complies with section 3 of joint Australian/New Zealand Standard AS/NZS 4330:1995. (3) This licence applies only to apparatus installed and operated for the purpose of transmission of radio distress alerts with the purpose of facilitating determination of the position of persons in search and rescue operations for which the Maritime Safety Authority of New Zealand does not require registration of a transmitted identity code. (4) The technical conditions applying under this licence shall be those specified in the Second Schedule to this notice. (5) The owner/user shall render the apparatus inoperable prior to its final disposal in a manner that will not compromise search and rescue operations. 4. Period of Validity of Licence This licence shall expire on the 31st day of January 1999. Carrier Frequency Tolerance: 3 kHz at 121.5 MHz, 6 kHz at 243 MHz Maximum Power: 300 mW (-5 dbW) e.i.r.p. Spurious [el] Emissions: Must not exceed 75 dBV/m measured 10 m from the antenna and 1.75m above the horizontal (-40 dBW e.i.r.p.). Dated at Wellington this 15th day of August 1997. H. M. This notice prescribes that, pursuant to regulation 13 of the Radiocommunications (Radio) Regulations 1993, a general licence is granted in respect of the installation, operation, and use of radio apparatus on frequencies specified in this notice. The licence only applies to apparatus which complies to section 3 of technical specifications AS/NZS 4330:1995, that is installed, operated and used for the transmission of radio distress alerts. This notice comes into effect on the 1st day of September 1997.
