Australia New Zealand Food Authority Variations to the Food Standards Code (Amendment No. 32) 1. Preamble The variations set forth in the Schedule below are variations to the Food Standards Code (hereinafter called ``the code'') which was published by the National Health and Medical Research Council in the Commonwealth of Australia Gazette, No. P 27, on 27 August 1987, and which has been varied from time to time. The Schedule contains variations adopted by the Australian New Zealand Food Standards Council in October, November and December 1996. These variations are published pursuant to section 32 of the Australia New Zealand Food Authority Act 1991. 2. Citation These variations may be collectively known as `Amendment No. 32' to the Code. 3. Commencement These variations commence on the date of publication of this Gazette. Schedule 1.. Standard A1 is varied by 1.1 inserting in the list in paragraph (5) (g) (ii) ``gelling agent''; and ``modified starch''; 1.2 inserting in paragraph (5) (g) (ii), after the words ``acidity regulator'', the words ``, acid or alkali''; 1.3 inserting in paragraph (5) (g) (ii), after the words ``artificial sweetening substances'', the words ``or artificial sweetener''; 1.4 inserting in paragraph (5) (g) (ii), after the word ``emulsifiers'', the words ``or emulsifying salt''; and 1.5 inserting in Parts 1 and 2 of the Schedule ``Alitame 956''; ``Choline salts and esters 1001''; ``Glycine 640''; ``L-Leucine 641''; ``Polyethylene glycol 8000 1521''; and ``Sucralose 955''. 2. Standard A3 is varied by inserting in columns 1 and 2 respectively of the Schedule ``Desserts and imitation creams Sodium stearoyl lactylate in proportion not exceeding 5 g/kg''. 3. Standard A6 is varied by inserting ``Neohesperidin dihydrochalcone'' in the Schedule. 4. Standard A7 is varied by inserting in columns 2 and 3 respectively of the Table to clause (4), in relation to the entry in column 1 for ``Ascorbic acid, erythorbic acid, and their sodium salts or a mixture of these'' ``Electrolyte drink 250 mg/L''; and ``Soft drink 250 mg/L''. 5. Standard A8 is varied by omitting subparagraph (7) (c) (iii) and substituting ``(iii) of 3mm where the artificial sweetener contains aspartame, in addition, a statement in the form `PHENYLKETONCURICS: CONTAINSPHENYLALANINE';''. 6. Standard A11 is varied by inserting in columns 1 and 2 respectively of the Schedule ``Glycine FCC p140 & 3rd suppl p118''. 7. Standard A16 is varied by 7.1 inserting ``Rhizopus arrhizus'' and ``Aspergillus oryzae'' respectively in column 2 of Group III of Table IV in the Schedule, in relation to the entry in column 1 for ``Lipase EC 3.1.1.3''; and 7.2 inserting after footnote 8 to Group III of Table IV in the Schedule `` Lipase may be produced from a genetically manipulated strain of Aspergillus oryzae containing the gene for lipase isolated from Humicola lanuginosa and inserted by plasmids pBoe1960 and p3SR2.''. 8. Standard H2 is varied by 8.1 omitting clauses (14) and (14A) and substituting ``(14) (a) A whipped thickened cream is a cream product prepared by thickening and whipping one of a variety of pasteurised cream.
