Amendment to Constitution of UNITEC Institute of Technology Pursuant to section 170 of the Education Act 1989, the Minister of Education hereby gives the following notice. N o t i c e 1. (a) This notice may be cited as the UNITEC Institute of Technology Notice 1996. (b) This notice shall come into force on the day after the date of its publication in the New Zealand Gazette. 2. There shall be a council to be known as the UNITEC Institute of Technology Council which shall control UNITEC Institute of Technology. 3. The UNITEC Institute of Technology Council shall be constituted as follows: (a) Four members appointed by the Minister of Education. (b) The chief executive officer of UNITEC Institute of Technology. (c) One permanent member of the academic staff of UNITEC Institute of Technology elected by the permanent members of that staff. (d) One permanent member of the general staff of UNITEC Institute of Technology elected by the permanent members of that staff. (e) One member who is or has been a student of UNITEC Institute of Technology who shall represent the students of UNITEC Institute of Technology and who shall be elected by the students of UNITEC Institute of Technology. (f) One member appointed in accordance with the constitution of the UNITEC Institute of Technology Council, after consultation with the central organisation of employers, from nominations from those employer organisations listed in the First Schedule of this notice. (g) One member appointed in accordance with the constitution of the UNITEC Institute of Technology Council, after consultation with the central organisation of workers, from nominations from those employee organisations listed in the Second Schedule of this notice. (h) Four members appointed by 4 separate electoral colleges which will be reflective of the disciplines taught in each of the 4 major academic groupings of UNITEC Institute of Technology, as listed in the Third Schedule of this notice. (i) One member who shall represent the West Auckland Maori Community and who shall be appointed by the Whanau O Waipareira. (j) One member who shall be appointed by the Maori Runanga of UNITEC Institute of Technology. (k) One member who shall be the vice-chancellor of the University of Auckland, or his/her nominee. (l) No more than 2 members to be co-opted by the UNITEC Institute of Technology Council. 4. No person who is a permanent member of staff of UNITEC Institute of Technology, or who is a student of UNITEC Institute of Technology shall be eligible for election, appointment or co-option as a member of the council, other than those persons elected or appointed, pursuant to paragraphs (b), (c), (d) and (e) of clause 3. 5. The term of office of members of the council, vacation of office, disclosure of members' interests and casual vacancies are covered in sections 173176 of the Education Act 1989. 6. Subject to section 173 of the Act, the maximum term of any member, other than the chief executive officer, shall be 3 consecutive 4-year terms. 7. The term of office of members appointed under clause 3 (1) shall be for 1 year. 8. The UNITEC Institute of Technology Council shall have the power from time to time to add or delete organisations from the First, Second and Third Schedules. 9. The notice constituting the council of Carrington Polytechnic* and appearing in the New Zealand Gazette, No. 176 on 11 October 1990 at pages 3802 and 3803, is hereby revoked. First Schedule The employer organisations as referred to in clause 3 (f), are as follows: Auckland Employers Association. Boating Industry Association of New Zealand. Furniture Manufacturers Association, Auckland Branch. Joinery Manufacturers Association, Auckland Branch. Master Plumbers and Gasfitters Association, Auckland Branch. Motor Trade Association, Auckland Branch. Painting Contractors Association of New Zealand. Second Schedule The employee organisations as referred to in clause 3 (g), are as follows: Service Workers Union of Aotearoa, Northern Regional Office. TradeSec Inc. Building Trades Union, Auckland Branch. New Zealand Nurses Organisation, Greater Auckland Region. New Zealand Plumbers and Gasfitters Union or Workers, Auckland Branch. Amalgamated Workers Union, Northern Branch. Third Schedule The electoral colleges reflecting the discipline of each of the major academic groups of UNITEC Institute of Technology as referred to in clause 3 (h), are as follows: Electoral College A. New Zealand Institute of Building, Auckland Chapter. Auckland Master Builders Association. Electoral College B. New Zealand Society of Accountants. Electoral College C. New Zealand Institute of Architects. New Zealand Institute of Quantity Surveyors. Institution of Professional Engineers New Zealand. Electoral College D.
