Notice That Certain Types of Electrical Appliances and Fittings Require Approval Before Being Offered for Sale Pursuant to regulation 90 (1) of the Electricity Regulations 1993 (the regulations), I, Kathy Smith, Acting Secretary of Commerce hereby give public notice that the types of electrical appliances and fittings listed in the Schedule require my approval, in respect of the fittings listed in paragraphs (A) and (B) of the Schedule from the date of this notice and in respect of the appliances listed in paragraphs (C) and (D) of the Schedule from a date 6 months from the date of this notice, before being offered for sale in New Zealand, and I also set the standards listed alongside the type of appliances or fittings in the Schedule as applicable to that type of appliance or fitting for the purposes of regulation 90 (9) (b) of the regulations. Schedule 1. Type of Appliances or Fittings Standard Applicable (A) Three Pin Plugs of the Rewirable Type which are intended for attachment to a flexible cord, intended for making a detachable connection to an electricity supply operating at a nominal voltage of 230 volts, and are rewirable but the cover providing protection from contact with live parts is not retained in place by screw(s), and are of the type with a profile as outlined in international Standard IEC 83 (Standard A10-20). AS/NZS 31121993 (including Amendments 1 and 2 to that standard). (B) Three Pin Cord Extension Sockets of the Rewirable Type which are intended for attachment to a flexible cord, and intended for making a detachable connection with a three pin flat pin plug of the profile outlined in international Standard IEC 83 (Standard A10-20), and are rewirable but the cover providing protection from contact with live parts is not retained by screw(s). AS/NZS 31201993 (including Amendment 1 to that standard). (C) Electrical Heating Appliances and Associated Controls for Spa Pools, intended to operate at a nominal voltage of 230 V AC 50 Hz and designed for the heating of water in spa pools. AS3136/NZS62321996. (D) Infrared Motion Sensor Luminaires, intended for connection to a nominal voltage of 230 V AC 50 Hz for use outdoors which incorporate a passive infrared motion sensor with one or more lampholders in a single assembly.
