The Hospitals (Eligibility for Exemption) Notice (No. 2) 1996 Pursuant to section 136a of the Hospitals Act 1957, the Minister of Health hereby gives the following notice. N o t i c e 1. Title and commencement (1) This notice may be cited as the Hospitals (Eligibility for Exemption) Notice (No. 2) 1996. (2) This notice shall come into force on the day after the date of its notification in the Gazette. 2. Class of hospital eligible to be granted exemption A geriatric hospital (whether or not that hospital is also licensed as another kind of hospital) is eligible to be granted an exemption under section 136b of the Hospitals Act 1957. Dated at Wellington this 31st day of July 1996. BILL ENGLISH, for Minister of Health. Explanatory Note This note is not part of the notice, but is intended to indicate its general effect. Section 136b empowers the Minister of Health to exempt an eligible hospital from all or any of the provisions of any regulations made under section 152 of the Hospitals Act 1957. This notice declares geriatric hospitals to be so eligible. Where a hospital is licensed as a geriatric hospital and another kind of hospital, the hospital may be granted an exemption under this notice in respect only of its status as a geriatric hospital.
