Te Kura Kaupapa Maori O Rotoiti Under sections 146 and 155 of the Education Act 1989, the Minister of Education hereby gives the following notice: N o t i c e 1. This notice may be cited as Te Kura Kaupapa Maori O Rotoiti. 2. This notice shall come into force on 12 August 1996. 3. I hereby establish at Rotoiti a primary school called Te Kura Kaupapa Maori O Rotoiti, and designate the school as a kura kaupapa Maori. 4. Aims, purposes, and objectives of Te Kura Kaupapa Maori O Rotoiti. Together with the use of te reo Maori as the principal language of instruction, the following aims, purposes, and objectives constitute the character of Te Kura Kaupapa Maori O Rotoiti: (i) To develop in all pupils a high degree of pride and self-respect. (ii) To enhance each child's identity and uniqueness. (iii) To ensure a holistic approach to education. (iv) To achieve high levels of competence in all areas of learning. (v) To provide meaningful and challenging programmes in all curriculum areas. (vi) To foster each child's endeavours towards reaching personal levels of attainment. (vii) To ensure the survival of the Maori language and of tikanga Maori. (viii) To help students become confident bicultural and bilingual citizens. 5. Constitution of the Board of Trustees. The Board of Trustees of Te Kura Kaupapa Maori O Rotoiti shall comprise: (a) Five people appointed by the Minister. (b) The principal. (c) A staff representative.
