Te Kura Kaupapa Maori O Whakawatea Under sections 146 and 155 of the Education Act 1989, the Minister of Education, hereby gives the following notice: N o t i c e 1. This notice may be cited as the Te Kura Kaupapa Maori O Whakawatea. 2. This notice shall come into force on 1 January 1997. 3. I hereby establish in Hamilton a primary school called Te Kura Kaupapa Maori O Whakawatea, and designate the school as a kura kaupapa Maori. 4. Aims, purposes, and objectives of Te Kura Kaupapa Maori O Whakawatea. Together with the use of te reo Maori as the principal language of instruction, the following aims, purposes, and objectives constitute the character of Te Kura Kaupapa Maori O Whakawatea: (i) To provide a warm, positive, nurturing, and safe learning environment. (ii) To foster a whanau environment involving the wider community. (iii) To encourage the self-esteem of each individual. (iv) To promote high-quality learning and achievement, to work individually and collectively, and to participate in all school activities. (v) To promote taha wairua, the principles of Te Aho Matua, Te Ataarangi, Accelerated Learning Techniques, Positive Reinforcement Child Management Practices, and Tainuitanga. (vi) To respect individual differences and to provide for children with special needs. (vii) To nurture te reo Maori and tikanga Maori at all times. (viii) To evaluate children's progress and to provide programmes of learning that meet their needs. 5. Constitution of the Board of Trustees. The Board of Trustees of Te Kura Kaupapa Maori O Whakawatea shall comprise: (a) Five people appointed by the Minister. (b) The principal, or principal designate.
