Notice of Decision of Disciplinary Committee At a hearing held on 3 May 1996, the Disciplinary Committee of the New Zealand Society of Accountants heard charges against Gavin Dominic O'Connell of Dunedin in that he had been convicted of a crime involving dishonesty as defined by section 2 of the Crimes Act 1961. Gavin Dominic O'Connell did not appear before the Disciplinary Committee and therefore was taken to have pleaded not guilty to the charges. After hearing submissions on behalf of the Investigation Committee, the Disciplinary Committee found the charges proved. Acting under section 24 (3) (a) of the New Zealand Society of Accountants Act 1958, the Disciplinary Committee ordered that the name of Gavin Dominic O'Connell be removed from the Register of Members of the society and fixed the date of 3 May 2001, after which Gavin Dominic O'Connell may apply for reregistration under this Act. Gavin Dominic O'Connell was also ordered to pay to the society the sum of $1,831.00 (including G.S.T.) in respect of the costs and expenses relating to the inquiry by the Disciplinary Committee and the investigation by the Investigation Committee. The Disciplinary Committee ordered that its decision be published in the Chartered Accountant's Journal of New Zealand and the New Zealand Gazette with mention of the member's name and locality.
