Friday, 11 November 1994, marks the 76th Anniversary of Remembrance (Armistice) Day and citizens throughout New Zealand are requested to observe this occasion. The observance should be marked by the sounding of sirens and bells followed by a minutes silence from 11 a.m. In any locality where it is planned to hold a citizens' memorial service, it would be appropriate for this to be held at the local cenotaph or war memorial. The Government trusts that all churches will agree to incorporate into their services held on Sunday, 13 November, a reference or commemoration to all those who gave their lives during that conflict, and note that the day is also a celebration of peace. Dated at Wellington this 5th day of November 1994. WARREN COOPER, Minister of Internal Affairs.
