Te Kura Kaupapa Maori O Te Koutu Pursuant to sections 146 and 155 of the Education Act 1989, the Minister of Education hereby gives the following notice: N o t i c e 1. This notice may be cited as Te Kura Kaupapa Maori O Te Koutu. 2. This notice shall come into force on 30 January 1995. 3. I hereby establish at Rotorua, a primary school called Te Kura Kaupapa Maori O Te Koutu, and I hereby designate the school as a kura kaupapa Maori. 4. Aims, purposes and objectives of Te Kura Kaupapa Maori O Te Koutu. Together with the use of te reo Maori as the principal language of instruction, the following aims, purposes, and objectives constitute the character of Te Kura Kaupapa Maori O Te Koutu: (i) Ko te reo o te kura, ko to tatou reo rangatira. Maori is the language of our school. (ii) Atawhaitia ai e te kura ia tamaiti, ia tamaiti kia puawai mai ai tona tino tangatatanga me ona pumanawa katoa. The school will provide an environment in which the humanity and talents of each child will develop. (iii) Manaakitia ai e te kura te wairua, te hinengaro, te hauora o ia tamaiti, o ia tamaiti, kai tau pai ai o ratou ngakau ki te ako i nga tini ahuatanga o te ao. The school will foster the spirit, the intellect and the health of each child so they may be open to learning about the world. (iv) Ka whaia e nga tamariki nga matauranga o nehera, o te ao hurihuri hoki - o te ao Maori, o te ao whanui hoki. The school will encourage the children to explore the realms of traditional and modern knowledge - Maori and global. (v) Ka piri te kura ki te iwi kainga, ki a Te Arawa me te whakanui hoki i nga tini iwitanga o a matou tamariki. The school will hold to Te Arawatanga, while celebrating all the tribal affiliations of our children. (vi) Ma te whanau e whakariterite i nga tikanga ake o te kura i raro i te maru atawhai o Te Aho Matua hoki. The whanau of the school (children, parents, teachers and supporters) will be involved in all aspects of the school, guided by the principles of Te Aho Matua. 5. Constitution of the Board of Trustees. The board of trustees of Te Kura Kaupapa Maori O Te Koutu shall comprise: (a) Five people appointed by the Minister; (b) The principal, or principal designate; (c) Not more than four persons co-opted by the board.
