Notice is hereby given that the Minister of Labour has approved the draft code of employment practice (“the draft code”) on infant feeding for public consultation.
The Minister of Labour is required by the Employment Relations Act 2000 (“the Act”) to approve a code of employment practice as soon as practicable after 1 April 2009.
The purpose of the draft code is to provide employers with guidance on how to fulfil their obligations concerning the provision of breastfeeding breaks and facilities under section 69Y of the Employment Relations Act 2000.
The draft code includes suggestions about the types of issues that should be considered when negotiating an arrangement with an employee who wishes to breastfeed, and also provides guidance on determining what arrangement would be reasonable and practicable in the circumstances.
