The levy is imposed on all shipping containers imported and used vehicles imported into New Zealand.
Under Regulation 11(2) of the Biosecurity (Gypsy Moth Levy) Order 2004, the Director-General hereby notifies the rate of levy for the 2009-2010 levy year.
This rate is the same as the rate for the 2008-2009 levy year.
The biosecurity gypsy moth levy for the levy year commencing 1 July 2009 and ending 30 June 2010 has been set at:
$0.65 (inclusive of GST) per shipping container or used vehicle.
The levy is calculated on the basis of dividing:
(a) the estimated annual cost of a surveillance programme for gypsy moth; by
(b) the estimated number of shipping containers and used vehicles to be imported annually into
New Zealand.
