Water Services (Drinking Water Quality Assurance) Rules Notice 2026
The Water Services Authority—Taumata Arowai gives notice of the making and publication of compliance rules under the Water Services Act 2021 (“Act”) by the Chief Executive, acting under delegated authority.
Water Services (Drinking Water Quality Assurance) Rules 2026 (“Rules”).
The Rules were made on 18 June 2026 and come into force on 1 July 2027.
Section 49 of the Water Services Act 2021 and section 48 of the Legislation Act 2019.
The Rules set out requirements relating to the performance of functions or duties under Part 2 of the Act, including updates made for very small, small and medium drinking water supplies in 2024 and further updates for large supplies. The Rules revoke and replace the Drinking Water Quality Assurance Rules 2022 from 1 July 2027.
The Water Services Authority—Taumata Arowai is the administering agency for the Rules.
The Rules are available on the Water Services Authority—Taumata Arowai website https://www.taumataarowai.govt.nz.
The Rules are secondary legislation for the purpose of the Legislation Act 2019.
