In accordance with section 74(1)(a) of the Legislation Act 2019, notification is hereby given of the making of Land Transport Rule: Vehicle Standards Compliance Amendment 2026 (“Rule”).

The objective of the Rule is to:

• implement a 3-tier, rolling warrant of fitness regime for light vehicles, applied using the Principal Rule’s existing anniversary-based expiry mechanism;
• move all light rental service vehicles to annual certificate of fitness for light vehicle inspections; and
• introduce a technology-neutral advanced driver assistance system warning indicator check for warrants of fitness and certificates of fitness for light vehicle inspections.

The Rule comes into force on 1 November 2026.
